ALI NAMA / PLAYWRIGHT AND DIRECTOR
Ali Nama is a playwright, director, and theater educator based in San Fransico Bay Area. His body of work spans various genres, primarily focusing on absurdist theater and eco-theater, and has been showcased in Iran and the USA.
Notable theatrical productions include "Man Does not Live by Bread Alone," "A Drink for Eugen Ionesco," "Analysis," and "Rhino 2020," which was staged at Virginia Tech. His plays often explore themes of social extremism and environmental impacts, blending deep narrative with poignant social commentary.
He is the founder of the "Goft o Goo" theater ensemble, under which he led numerous successful productions from 2007 to 2015. His work has earned him several awards and nominations at national and international theater festivals.
Alongside his work in theater, he is deeply committed to educational endeavors, having conducted various theater workshops in both Iran and the USA. He also founded Art for Environmental Justice (AEJ), an initiative that merges artistic expression with social advocacy, focusing on the impacts of climate change on vulnerable groups.
He holds an MFA in Theater from the College of Fine Arts, University of Tehran, Iran.
